From 2013 to 2019, the original Beautitone band was based in Venice, Italy.Lee’s current Canadian band, Lee Holmes & the Beautitones, features Randy Jakob on drums and Paul Taylor on guitar. Don’t Hesitate which will be his fifth CD is due for release in the spring of 2023.
For years in Canada, Lee was an in-demand, accomplished bassman. Today, Lee is renown for his distinctive natural blues voice as well as his bass playing.
Lee Holmes is originally from Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a graduate of the music program at Capilano University in North Vancouver. While living in western Canada, he toured across the country with various bands until 1987. For the next sixteen years while living in Northern Ontario, Lee developed his vocal chops playing with Blues guitarist Mike Burton in the Hurtin Blues Band. Together they toured the North playing many local festivals and recorded three cds.
As a co-founder of the Porquis Blues Festival in Northern Ontario, Lee had the opportunity to play with many of the top Canadian bluesmen: Amos Garrett, Kenny Blues Boss Wayne, Michael Pickett, Jack De Keyser, Dutch Mason, Julian Fauth, David Rotundo, Dylan Wickens and Michael Fonfara of Downchild fame.
In 2015 he toured in Europe with Sue Foley.
CDs:
2019 - Venice at Night/ Lee Holmes. This CD was recorded in Vancouver at Cosmic Pig Studio and features John Kieselhorst on guitar and Randy Jakob on drums with Lee on bass and vocals. Background vocals by Helene Duguay and Lori Jakob.
2013 - Sit Down Blues/Lee Holmes. This CD features Mike Burton on guitar. Special guests include Sue Foley on guitar and cello, Peter Karp on keys and guitar, Steve Marriner on harmonica and Mike Catapano on drums. The CD was produced by Nashville's Peter Karp. All of the songs are original : lyrics by Alana Pierini and music by Lee Holmes.
